William Cleveland M.S., M.T.
Director of Laboratory Operations
William Cleveland has worked in the field of toxicology for over 10 years and has served in roles of supervision and management of analytical laboratories for over 5 years. His experience includes toxicology testing for hospitals, private sector laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and universities. As an Associate Study Director and Contributing Scientist he has authored over 100 analytical toxicology reports for review by multiple regulatory agencies including the: FDA, EPA, OECD and JM HLW. As a Clinical Toxicologist and Scientist he has performed numerous assays for substances including those for abuse testing, therapeutic drug monitoring and pediatric monitoring. He has earned a BA in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry from Grand Valley State University and holds a master’s degree in toxicology and pharmacology from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
Mohammed Remtulla PH.D., SC(ASCP), CC(NRCC)
Certifying Scientist
Dr. Mohamed Remtulla received his Ph.D from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He completed his Clinical Biochemistry laboratory training and residency at the University of Toronto in Canada. Dr. Remtulla is registered and certified by the National Registry in Clinical Chemistry, a specialist in Chemistry by the American Society of Clinical Pathology, and licensed by the state of Florida as Clinical Chemistry Director. He has 25+ years of experience in clinical laboratories working at various major hospitals and commercial laboratories in South Florida.
Dave Beaver
Technical Supervisor
Dave Beaver is a General Supervisor with over 30 years of experience in the diagnostics industry. At First Choice Laboratory, his responsibilities include day-to-day supervision of personnel performing high complexity chemistry and toxicology testing; overseeing implementation of the laboratory information system; integrating our sales and results portal for physicians and sales representatives; ensuring quality control and quality assurance programs meet state and federal compliance regulations; resolution of technical issues; ensuring standard operating procedures are up to date and accurate; and proper training and education of current and new technologies.
Nancy Roman
Human Resources Director
Joining First Choice Laboratory in January of 2017, Nancy has over 15 years of Human Resources experience, specializing in small to mid-size organizations and providing guidance to senior managers in startup, growth, and stable organizations. Her broad experience includes benefits, employee relations, payroll, and talent acquisition. Nancy is passionate about helping First Choice Laboratory make the most of their resources and talent and in helping the employees succeed in their careers.
Amy Shea
Medical Technologist
Amy Shea has worked in the fields of Toxicology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, and Serology with over 20 years of total experience. Her experience includes leadership roles in quality matrix development with over 15 years of leading quality improvement teams. As a lead Medical Technologist she has conducted testing for hospitals, reference laboratories, and healthcare companies. She has worked under the accreditation bodies of The College of American Pathologists, COLA, and ISO. Amy earned a degree in Medical Technology from Keiser University and has furthered her education by studying compliance and quality programs.
Diane Kitchen
Executive Assistant
Diane Kitchen has served as Executive Assistant to Chief Operating Officer Daniel Hurt since the company’s inception in 2010. Diana has assisted the CEO with operations, growth, and effectiveness of the office. She is responsible for providing a full range of support services including calendar/schedule management, travel arrangements, reports, and prepared requisite materials. Diane’s well-rounded experience represents strong organizational skills, staff and office management, financial matters such as client billing, and event coordination.
Stephen J. Nelson, M.A., M.D., F.C.A.P.
Medical Laboratory Director
Dr. Nelson is a pathologist certified by The American Board of Pathology in anatomic pathology, forensic pathology, and neuropathology. For over 27 years Dr. Nelson has provided interpretations of toxicology analyses in his role as Chief Medical Examiner. He received his B.S. degree in biology from Gannon University, his M.A. degree in Experimental Pathology (neuropathology) from the University at Buffalo, and his M.D. from American University of the Caribbean. His residency training in anatomic pathology and his fellowship training in neuropathology were at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, followed by his fellowship training in forensic pathology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He has authored over 113 peer-reviewed scientific publications or symposia dealing primarily with neuropathology and forensic science topics, including toxicology.
